Cheba Hut, a cannabis themed submarine sandwich shop located on Market street in Downtown Riverside, provides the cure to your pot-fueled munchy madness, or just a great place to stop for lunch.
Cheba Hut was founded by Scott Jennings, in 1998 in Tempe, Arizona. Jennings attended college in Tempe, and opened the first shop near the college he attended.
"Cheba" is a slang term used to describe marijuana, and that sets the tone for this pot themed restaurant where your sub is not likely to be the only thing "toasted" in the shop. It's important to note that none of the food products or any items at Cheba Hut contain any marijuana or THC in them.

The dining room decor is very on brand with pot themed paraphernalia adorning the walls, as well as a "thank you for 'POT' smoking" sign on the wall. Another important note, California law prohibits smoking indoors, so you'll have to blaze before you graze.

I chose the "mini" G-13, which proved itself to be the perfect late afternoon snack. A common complaint I have with sandwich shops is that they often feel that "bigger is better", and sometimes I just want a quick nosh. The G-13 featured turkey and roast beef with bacon, all of which were fresh and delicious, and the veges were crisp and complemented the sandwich well. The bun was, of course, perfectly "toasted."
G-13 gets it name from a strain of weed with the urban legend of having been crafted in secret government labs from the best weed from all over the world, and the mini clocks in at 420 calories. Get it? 420...

We stuck with the standard fountain drink offerings for our late afternoon trip, but Cheeba Hut also features many locally brewed craft beers on tap, as well as a full bar, and happy hour from 4:20 - 7:10 pm.
With 30 different sub choices, and lots of other snacks and drinks, Cheba Hut is the place to be whether you are killing the munchies, or just killing lunch!
